California Dreamin’
M U S I C M O N D A Y
This is one of my favorite songs. I think each Monday I’m going to feature one song that I love. It’s 7 degrees today in the windy city and so I think California Dreamin’ is the perfect choice for today’s pick. Enjoy!!!

A timeless song. Thanks, Lisa!
It’s one of my favorites. Glad you like it, too.
Nice one!
7 degrees??? You do have to get out of Chicago!
Burrrrrr….. Yes, I do!!
Why is Mama Cass so hot? She’s actually got some decent footwork going on. I like the pictures of houses just covered in snow and then people at the beach. Does Mama Cass REALLY want to be at the beach? I think not.
That’s it Lily! It’s exactly what I thought initially — Mama Cass has all the moves! Thanks for the tune — I really enjoyed it! They really were a very good group. I especially like that song Creeque Alley where they say ‘…and no one’s getting fat except Mama Cass’.
Ask Lily if I have Creeque Alley on my mixes! I love that song. My son is like, “Doesn’t that hurt her feelings?” hahah! I love to sing along to their songs and try to harmonize. They were such a motley troubled group, but boy, could they sing.
Hahah! I was thinking the same thing as you and Sandee!!!! Mama Cass has the moves! I love how they juxtapose the worst winter in the world with summer in Cali! It actually makes me laugh a little.
I took note of that too — having the video of extreme winter and the California summer side by side. Years ago I worked with a woman from California and she would sing this song because she was sick of being in the brutal New York winters here.
That’s how I feel. Right around this time of year I start getting sick of it, don’t you?
Great song.. Brr, 7 degrees? Guess you don’t want to know it’s a balmy 72 here
that is not nice to rub it in!
Umm, no, I can’t say that I need to know that! haha!
I have so many good memories of the Mamas and the Papas. One summer when I was a kid I stayed with my grandparents in the country for a couple weeks and before my parents dropped me off, they gave me a new Barbie and a M+P greatest hits cassette for me to play with while I was there. I think that Barbie put on many concerts over the course of those weeks.
They’re classic. I really don’t know anyone who doesn’t like them.
Barbie concerts! haha! I’m with you, music from that era has lots of good memories attached. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
I LOVE this song! It has special meaning for me. Thanks for posting!
Me too! Isn’t it funny how music can transport us to another time and place? I love that feeling. Thanks for commenting, Rainey!
Love the song. Mama Cass had a great voice. Brings back a lot of memories.
She really did have one of the greatest voices, I agree. I was just saying, I love it when music transports us to another time and place, when those good memories and feelings return. It’s great.
I am hating this cold winter.. this song is perfect. This is the kind of song you just have to sing along to
I know, right? I like to pretend I can harmonize, meanwhile, if anyone really heard my voice they’d cover their ears and run! haha!
This cold is so sucky.
sucky indeed..
One of my favorite songs ever! Sang it at the Shabbat table in Israel last week.
How funny is that? Are you home safe and sound, now? Still jet lagged?
Got home at midnight: 36 hrs after I got to the airport, and 53 hrs awake. Home sweet home!
Oh my goodness, Dawn. You need to crawl in very deeply under those covers. Glad you’re back!!
Thanks friend! I think I’ll just lie around and take on the culture shock of re-entry, later.
This is so ga-roovey, Lisa. Love it. Good gawd woman, seven degrees? I hope the wind’s not blowing.
I love this song but the video makes me laugh. It’s like they juxtaposed the harshest winter in the world with scenes from the middle of summer in Cali. haha! Ridiculous. It doesn’t stop me from dreaming of warmth. Burrrr….
I love a ga-roovey tune as much as you do!
Thank you Lisa… I love it too! Great video.
How are you????
I’m hanging in there. Some days are better than others
I hope you’re well. Thanks for all the love and kindness, Di.
What a great group!! I am still saddened by the loss of Mama Cass. Thanks for a warm song on a cold day. Good choice!
I’ve always loved them. They’re one of my favorite groups to sing along to. I like to pretend I’m Michelle Phillips but with Cass Elliot’s voice! Haha! What a troubled group they were.
Haven’t heard that for a while. One of the great songs.
It’s one of my favorites. It always ends up on my mixes. I like to harmonize with it.
OMG! I too love this song. (Three guesses who used to sing this to me on the phone.)
Hugs!
Me, too! Was it your Bryant…? OMG is right. It seems like so many of us have good memories associated with this song. I’m so glad I posted it.
xoxox
I have no clue what the temperature here is. I saw a bank at around 1 in the morning the other day that said 62. It was lying.
Hey aren’t you stealing Pete’s idea of Music Monday?
I started it a year ago! Remember? Look on my ‘about’ page, it was part of my schedule.
Ha I know
someone else besides Pete I saw did it but I can’t rememer who. Everyone knows you have the best ideas.
Okay, you’ve redeemed yourself.
Hey, we only got up to 60 something here in Northern California today. I had to scrape a thin layer of frost off the windshield this morning. True story.
7 degrees. With a windchill too, I bet. That’s what they make Snuggies for.
I think the words “thin layer” really sum up your winter experience in Northern California. That doesn’t even sound worth getting out the scraper for. Haha!
OK, I’ll be honest. I sprayed the windshield with wiper fluid, then brushed the slush off. Much easier. Still, there’s frost! Burrrr.
Ah-ha! I knew it!!
Love it
Thanks! Me too!
When I was little, and Forest Gump came out, my mom bought the soundtrack and I never gave it back. I listened to it over and over again, and then when my fifth grade choir teacher told me that we were singing this song, I could not stop smiling. Because I knew the song, and had known it for so long! Thanks for sharing the song… it’s amazing what memories are associated with music! nerdwithtaste.wordpress.com
I feel the same way about this song. You’ve got great memories associated with it. I was actually around when it came out. I remember playing it on the record player until it was almost worn thin. Loved it then, and love it still.
Thanks for commenting!!
7 degrees just can’t be right with the Lord. Ick! Love The Mamas & The Papas. Thanks for sharing
Yeah, I’m not sure who 7 degrees is right with…? It’s pretty sucky. I’m just happy we don’t have the full blizzard and ice accompaniment. Knock on wood.
Glad you enjoyed this little offering.
That sure is a catchy song! My parents once played it here, and I was like ‘woooaaah, dat music from dat era!’
.
It’s a classic. Yeah, that era really was amazing – I can say that, having lived through it.
Great tune!
And I don’t think I’ve ever heard a decent cover of it.
Guess they just had a certain magic…
I don’t think I have either? It’s hard to beat. I love to sing along to their harmonies. (…and pretend I’m good.)
it is darn cold here too – thanks for one of my favourite songs–brings back such memories
Love this song! I’m moving to California in a couple months and now all I listen to are songs like this!
That’s wonderful! Strangely enough I was supposed to be moving to LA in December but things fell apart. I’m jealous! Enjoy the beautiful weather and let this song carry you there. It’s one of my favorites.
I think of ham sandwich, albeit untrue. And, I live in California and its flippin cold right now…47 F. Although, spose to make it to 70 F today
, but I’ll be headed to Seattle
Seattle depresses me. It’s actually supposed to be close to 70 degrees here today. Chicago is nothing if not unpredictable.
Poor Cass Elliot always with the ham sandwich!
