Tuesday’s Grab Bag
A LITTLE HODGE-PODGE
Today’s post will be a mess o’ jumbled topics. I have little bits of this and that which I’d like to unload in one random post. Here goes…
DENTAL UPDATE – I had a root canal on tooth #28. The pain continued despite the fact that there was no nerve or root to speak of. Mysterious? Yes. Horrifying? Absolutely. Turns out I may have had an unnecessary root canal. In fact, I may have something called “Neuralgia.” Wikipedia states, The pain associated with Neuralgia is recognized as one of the most excruciating pains that can be experienced. Thanks internet! Oh, did I forget to mention, there’s no treatment or cure for Neuralgia. My response, “Yee Haa! It’s really shaping up to be a great summer!!!! The only thing that could trump this news is if I’m able to achieve full consciousness on my death bed.
I’m already picturing myself on medical Marijuana, looking like Barbara Hershey in Beaches, wrapped in blankets at the seashore, waiting to die. (Cue: Wind Beneath My Wings).
AWARDS – nymuse88 delighted me, many moons ago, with the, “Illuminating Blogger Award.” Since she’s an extremely talented writer and lyricist and all around artist, par excellence, I was incredibly flattered. (And it even matches my Header!)
I have to choose 5 other bloggers to pass the torch to. Since I’m a bit lazy I thought I would invite any one who frequents my blog or who is on my blogroll to partake of this beautiful award. I have the utmost respect for all of you and always enjoy what you have to say, even when I don’t. ONLY KIDDING!! I always do : )
This award requires that I share a random fact about myself. I think I’ll share two since they kind of go together. I suppose I can be a wee bit indulgent at times.
1. The Winslow Homer painting that I use as my Header, The New Novel, is framed in my bedroom. Yup, it’s the original….. Just joking, I wish. The irony is that since I’ve started blogging I haven’t had time to read a single novel! haha!
2. “A Gripping Life” is actually a throw away line from the movie “Bridget Jones.” I don’t know why, but it makes me laugh every time I hear it. I doubt anyone else will think it’s funny. I believe it’s that English sense of humor that catches me off guard, the way they down play everything… They’ve got quite a good sense of humor across the pond, if I do say so myself. (The bit I’m speaking of is at the beginning and yes, there’s some language.)

LASTLY… I just wanted to say how completely in awe I am of this blogging community that I’m somehow lucky enough to be a part of. All of you inspire, validate, comfort, humor and challenge me with your thoughts and feelings. “I stand all amazed” at the human experience that we lovingly share. Thanks guys!
Agree completely with your last statement.
How interesting, what a gripping life you do lead.
Ahaha! I love Hugh Grant 😀
Sorry to hear about your tooth 😦 you can’t catch a break can you? May I suggest crack cocaine? You never see anyone in pain when they’re on that stuff, they say it only hurts when you go through withdrawal so as long as you keep taking it you’ll be fine!
That’s exactly my plan. I’m gonna ride out the rest of my days like a total junkie. Maybe Gangsta Pete has some drugs he can supply me with? haha!
He never carries, that’s why Gangsta Pete isn’t in jail, he has dealers on every corner that sort him out 😀
hahahaha!
Hope your tooth feels better soon! I burnt the roof of my mouth the other day and it’s driving my nuts, so I can only imagine what kind of pain you’re in.
LOVE Bridget Jones and love that line! You’ve got good taste 🙂 Congrats on the award!
I actually missed a trip to Italy and Spain because of this stupid tooth!! Can you believe that? My husband is over there without me. : (
I’m glad you have love for Bridget Jones, too.
I’m so bad with awards – I can’t even believe that I get them? What the heck…? haha!
Are you gay? lol The ending was so cheese. But I’m glad that you have found happiness in wordpress! I’m really glad that both you and I can share this little place and look back at it years down the road (hopefully I won’t be doing it for THAT long still) and laugh. Okay wait, now I’m gay.
I want to rip your neuralgia out because I’m annoyed that you’re annoyed. Ya know?! I liked your fun facts! I already knew them though 🙂
Hey, Cheese is my middle name. I couldn’t think of a better way to end the grab bag, I always imagine everyone is bored with me by that time so I throw ’em a bone. haha! ONLY KIDDING! I really do love my peeps. Don’t make fun of me.
Hahah but you’re the best person to make fun of! 😉
You had UNNECESSARY dental work??!! OMG, that sucks, Grippy!! But I’m glad you’re better (loved the Beaches reference and what you’d be doing btw, hilarious). I gave you the Illuminating Blogger award when I did my long list of bloggers last week, I believe so obviously you’re double illumination. And back at ya, as far as bloggers go, glad to have you as one of my followers and one I follow. Happy 4th friend! :).
Thanks little Brig. I feel the love. I was going to save your awards because I feel like it gets too crazy if you don’t spread them out a bit. Thanks for illuminating me with your kindness!
I thought I was following you until I checked, today. WordPress has screwed up many of my accounts. It’s like they turn them on and off. So frustrating!
Have a beautiful 4th of July!!!
Meant that as a compliment, really. thanks little, thanks lot, it matters not. You too! :).
That’s how I took the whole thing : ) You’re nothing if not kind and sensitive, Brigitte. There’s no mistaking that.
Tooth-healing vibes coming …right…NOW!
Aww… Thanks, Brian. I’m feeling the love.
Oy vey, an unnecessary root canal is NOT cool. I’m so sorry, Grippy. That’s awful. And neuralgia isn’t any better. Any chance you can catch up with your hub and get to Spain and Italy now?
Also, you’re part of the bloggy community that I love so much, so thank YOU! And feel better!
It’s all very uncool. The Europe trip was planned for a specific time frame because I have potential buyers coming to see my house on the 10th of this month. So, unfortunately it’s now too late : (
I definitely had you in mind when I wrote that last paragraph. So yeah, thanks!
Have a Happy 4th of July!!
I happen to think we are all incredibly lucky to have YOU around. Just saying.
Awww… Thanks Broseph. I think you’re swell, too. : )
So sorry that tooth is still agonising!
I am also in awe of the clogging community, such Fab people out there. I hope you feel better soonest!
Thanks Charlene! It’s such a great group, isn’t it?
Have a wonderful crafty day!
First, congrats on the award.. It’s a really pretty award too!
So #28 caused you to have an unnecessary root canal? Geez Louise, what a mess..
Since I started blogging back in March (here at WP) I have read some of the most interesting, sincere, funniest, educational things I know I would not otherwise have read.. It’s a delight each day to scroll through my word-troupe and read the latest post..
Happy 4th of July to you!!!!!!
Thanks Lynne!
Yeah, I feel like such a Debbie Downer with the whole tooth thing, but maybe someone can be helped by my getting to the bottom of this mouth mystery? I would hate for anyone to get misdiagnosed again.
It’s a great group we have here — lots of cool stuff to sift through.
Have a Happy 4th of July, too!!!
In reverse order, yes,we know the absolute coolest people in the ‘sphere.
Congrats on the award! Weel done, and well deserved.
Took to your primary care doc about the neuralgia. Maybe he can deaden the affected nerves.
Sorry you have to go through that. I hope they can find some relief for you.
Talk, not Took.
I can;t type worth a damn today. Time to check the blood sugar.
I guess that’s my plan. Pain is not something that I’d do well with. It doesn’t suit my personality. haha! I’ll do whatever it takes. It’s very depressing. I feel like such a downer, lately. “Hey everyone, let’s go over to Lisa’s blog so we can thank our lucky stars that we’re not Lisa!” haha!
I was just in my car and the temperature said 103 degrees. That might be a record for Chicago? Hope it’s a tad cooler in your neck of the woods.
Have a great day, Guapo!
Okay Kiddo, so now that you have had “unnecessary” root canal, is the dentist willing to return the “unnecessary” money? hahaha.
BTW…since neuralgia does not respond to any known cures…how do you deal with the pain and continue to function as, what I will loosely describe as, a normal human being, albeit without the aforementioned smoking of crack cocaine or downing massive quantities of alcohol?
I’m staring at my note attached to the monitor… 🙂
Be encouraged!
It’s really shaping up to be the summer of my dreams! haha! I’m not sure how this gets dealt with, to be honest. I’ve read about a few treatments but nothing sounds too promising. I’m going to talk to my primary care Dr. on monday and see what I can find out. (I need to stay off the internet because there’s too much scary stuff on it.)
Pain doesn’t exactly suit my personality. It sort of cramps my style : )
Thanks for the encouragement, Stephen!
Happy 4th!
Lisa
Best wishes…keep us posted…and if there is ever anything Susie, Jake the Wonder Dog, and I can do, don’t hesitate to inquire.
Be encouraged!
Thanks, Stephen! You are so VERY kind : )
Oh Lisa *sob* Blogging is such a wonderful thing. Only yesterday I was thinking of how it improves my life. I need a trigger to write, and look where I am now: still on my chair behind a screen, but with a few friends who make me write quite amusing stories.
I love it.
Hopefully you’ll get some free marijuana somewhere!
You’re writing continues to grow in the short time I’ve known you. I think you have lots of stories to tell. I was kidding about the medical marijuana… but if I have to live a life of pain I will likely change my mind. haha!
You should probably march right over to the dentist and give him an unnecessary kick in the shins for that unnecessary root canal.
Haha! I SHOULD!! I think he was scared because of my pain, which he obviously didn’t investigate enough, and then decided a root canal was the way to go. UGH! Such a nightmare.
Sorry but I’m still laughing at the image of you on medical marijuana looking like Barbara Hershey in Beaches! Oh but seriously I’m so sorry to hear that they think it might be neuralgia . . . I only hope there’s something they can give you to control it. And having to get an un-needed root canal and to top it off 104 degree record weather. And here you are writing the funniest posts ever! Well, you lead a gripping life! (loved that clip! Ah to be British — maybe in my next life!)
You truly deserve that award. You have certainly enriched my life by being in it. ! You’ll never know how much I enjoy reading your blog (and Lily’s too) and how you make me feel good every single day! You truly deserve that award, Lisa and I hope so much you can get some relief for your pain.
Aww… That’s kind, Linda. I feel the same way about you. I get excited when I get an email that says you’ve posted something. You’re a gifted writer and such an original! I always marvel at your creativity.
I have to make myself laugh otherwise I’d have a breakdown. The Barbara Hershey scenario is actually starting to look pretty good! Haha! Naturally, if it comes to that I’ll keep my iPad with me so I can stay current with the Drawing Lady, Al Gore, Pottery Barn and of course, Peanuts. : D
