One more for the Gripper…
The funny thing about this post title is that I’ve never actually seen the 1940’s movie, Knute Rockne: All American. The film starred Ronald Reagan who played Notre Dame’s starring athlete, George Gipp. You’ve probably either seen it, or know about it from that famous line, “Win just one for the Gipper.” Apparently this is what George Gipp said to his coach, Knute Rockne, from his hospital bed before dying from a throat infection at the ripe old age of 25. (Geeze, I’m glad I don’t live in the 1940’s. What kind of crap doctors did they have back then anyway?) Here’s the full quotation from which the line is derived:
“Some time, Rock, when the team is up against it, when things are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys – tell them to go in there with all they’ve got and win just one for the Gipper. I don’t know where I’ll be then, Rock. But I’ll know about it, and I’ll be happy.”
I apologize for the long introduction into today’s post. I couldn’t help myself. By the way, for those of you who might be interested, Madame Weebles came up with my blog nick name, Grippy. That’s when I started calling her simply, Weebs. Once again, I digress.
A few posts back I asked all of my blogging friends to send some good house selling prayers, energy, vibes, etc. my way. My house has been on the market for 16 months. To say I’m fed up with the whole process would be a gross understatement. Anyway, all of you will be interested to know that the same couple, the people you sent your power packed prayers to, are coming back tomorrow for a second showing!! YAY!!! Isn’t that amazing? Do you suppose that the energy and prayers that you guys put out there really made a difference? I do!!
So I’m asking all of you, to do it again — one more for the Gripper. The showing is at 10:00 am tomorrow. I’m hoping for perfect house showing conditions.
Hey, if I end up selling my house to this couple, I think it will be safe to assume that this blogging community has some potent mojo that we can all tap into. There is, after all, strength in numbers. Don’t buy any lottery tickets just yet. I’ll keep you posted.
Alright I’ll doing one here for the Gripper. :). Yay! (should I call you Grippy or Lisa?) Anyhoo will send you some good thoughts and prayers and hope, hope, hope that the second go-round will make this couple know that they MUST buy your house. That’s always a good sign though, a second look.
It’s exhausting keeping a house neat to the point of showing, isn’t it?? Good luck, Lisa/Grippy and here’s some good mojo coming your way right…….NOW.
Thanks Brig. You can call me whatever you want, just don’t call me late for dinner! Ha! Seriously, you can call me Grippy – it’s sort of endearing. In my family we shorten and assign new names to everyone – it feels more familiar and less formal.
I appreciate the positive thoughts and prayers. I really will be amazed if this is the couple that ends up buying it. Thank you kindly, mam. : )
Hugs to you, Brig!!!
I’m afraid my local food store was out of St. Joseph candles on my last visit, so, we are stuck with Our Lady of Guadalupe. With luck, it’s the thought that counts, right?? I feel it in my bones, Grippy–this is the couple that is going to buy that house of yours, then, you get to box up and garage sale and move!!! YAY!!!!
Let’s give Our Lady of Guadalupe a chance to do her thing. It is indeed the thought that counts. The sun seems to have come out, so things are looking up!
Thanks, Miss Addie. You know I appreciate all the love and support!
Fantastic! Hoping they look at what you’ve done with the place and realize what a beautiful home it can be!
Strong hopes are with you (not a praying kind of guy.)
My introduction to that quote was in one of the Airplane movies, with Leslie Nielsen saying “Pull one up for the Zipper”
haha! Maybe no one has seen that movie, but we all seem to know that line, don’t we?
I’ll take your Guapolian strong hopes and good vibes! Those may have been just the thing that did the trick last time! : ) Thanks, Guapo!!
Sending out positive vibes 🙂
Thanks a bunch, Ingrid!!!
I absolutely with 100% certainly know that collectively, people with positive energy & thoughts can bring good fortune and light. So here is my bit from the Sunny South 🙂
(That movie was my Dad’s Favorite)
Aww… Lynne. I believe it, too. I’ll take your good light, love and positive energy from the Sunny South. Thanks, kind friend.
You’ve taught me a lot. The most important thing, never buy a house with intentions to one day sell it.
Best of luck! Don’t be afraid to drop to the woman how John Hughes movies always took place in Chicago. This might hack right into her generation.
Again, Tim, such sage advice.
I’m glad I’ve taught you never to buy a house, lest you get stuck with it. My job here is done.

YAY! I am so excited that you may have unloaded your house! We will be praying, lighting candles, singing incantations, all that stuff. I have such a good feeling about this!
Thanks, Em!! You rock. When it’s all done, I’d like to hear an audio or see a vid of the singing incantations. Make sure to include Miss C — since babies are fresh from the other side, they have a lot of pull, know what I mean?
Thanks a bunch!
Had to take a time out from reading to laugh at your caption of the Gipper! Ha! And yes, those doctors in the 40’s must have been horrible. Plus they were always saying stuff like “He will never walk again” and then “he” would go on to break the record in the high hurdles. It was only when the doctors would say, “he WILL walk again” that a person really had to worry!
Oh I am so happy Grippy that they are coming back for a second look! I will keep my mind focused on them LOVING it and BUYING it on the spot! That’s wonderful news for sure! And I so enjoyed your charming post! 😀
Thanks, Linda! Yeah, those doctors in the 40″s must have been the worst. Every thing was either a death sentence or a miracle! haha! I never knew this story, so when I found out he died of a throat infection, I was like, “What the heck?”
Fingers crossed they like it and make an offer. They’re currently in an apartment renting so it could be perfect. We’ve had several people say they love it only to find out they have to sell their house first. It’s so frustrating.
Thanks again, Linda!!
You got it Grippy! I had you in my prayers before, I’ll definitely have you in my prayers today.
Aww…Thanks, Sandee!!! I’m SO ready to have something good happen. It’s been too long.
I am sending you a blast of light!!!!! Good luck…I have a good feeling about this.
Actually, I just always have a good feeling whenever I am over on your blog space.
Thanks for being such a bright light.
Hey Lisa, my love! I was gonna say, when do YOU not have a good feeling? Speaking of bright light… You’re definitely one of them : ) Thanks for your kindness and support!!
Have a beautiful weekend!
Oh thank you!!!
It’s so weird we were on each other’s blogs at the same time!!!
ARe we psychic?
well alrighty… I am sending super duper fantastical spendiferous good vibes your way and I’m gonna talk to the big guy upstairs just for added goodness.
Be well and be positive..
I was hoping you’d do that for me : )
I’m seriously needing a miracle, so the extra added goodness will be important.
Hope you’re doing well and work is not beating you up too much?
Have a sweet weekend, Audra!
I can feel the vibrant vibes exploding off WP to you and yours…
i am adjusting to academia…not well but getting there
Good vibes good vibes good vibes. I just sent you all those good vibes, in case you’re wondering. Hopefully these are the right people! Tell them they can have it as is if they want! Why not unload everything and get a fresh start! Like a hobo!
PS I like those pictures. I always like old timey looking pics!
Me, too. They sort of class up the joint.
Such wisdom! I’ve always wanted to be a hobo and it looks like I might get my chance! Thanks, Lil! haha!
You’re an inspiration — I know it can’t be easy. Just keep your eyes on the prize and you’ll be done before you know it. (And then we can all celebrate in your honor!! whoo-hoo!)
Brigitte mentioned you needed some love today, and I’m here to add my good wishes. May the couple be completely entranced with your home 🙂
Deliciousness!! That’s so kind of you! I’ll take all the love I can get. Thanks for being so sweet and thoughtful!!
I’m lighting a cookie-scented candle for your good house juju!
I think I can already smell it! Perfect and thanks!
Btw, looks like it will be next Friday, eh? Haha! I’m sticking with Eebs.
Yeah, let’s bank on the 14th! Addie thinks it’ll be the 15th though.
Well, as much as I love Addie, let’s remember who got the sex right…? Hmmm…
hahaha! Sticking with Eebs. She’s got the inside track.
sending more good thoughts early this morning.. Crack O’ Dawn Vibe O Matic
Good luck.. seriously
Okay, the Vibe O Matic made me laugh!!! I’m feeling the love, Audra.
love the house, love the house, love the house….. My morning mantra.
Ronnie wasn’t my cup of tea but I hope you can feel the vibes from across the Atlantic.
I’m totally feeling the good vibes, in fact I think I’ll have a cuppa in your honor! Thanks, my Ginger friend!!!
Make sure you put the milk in before you pour! Wars have been fought over this Gulliverian problem.
Haha! Will do.
Woohoo! Good luck, Gripper! I’ll be thinking of you!
well? Well? WELL????? How did it go? Did they swoon at the delight of your house? Did Our Lady help out? Tell all!!!!
Not sure. They came with an architect and friends. The realtor said the husband seemed bored. Soo, not sure what they’re thinking? I have an open house tomorrow. Hopefully everyone’s positive energy will bring people in.
An architect?? Excellent!! Who cares what the husband thinks, we all know the wife buys the house. I still think this is the couple, I really do.
I do hope the artichoke was sufficiently qualified to be able to point out all the merits and advantages of the property. Maybe the husband is just a chronically bored type. introducing a venomous snake into the living room often works wonders on that.
Hahah! I think that would wake him up but I’m not sure what it would do for the value of my house.
