Music Monday
I’m very happy that my 200th post has fallen on Music Monday! For me, music is like oxygen – I need it to survive. It transports me and has the power to turn a bad day into a better one. One of my favorite activities is cruising Youtube and treating myself to my old favorites. That’s how I came up with my idea for celebrating this occasion. I’ve been formulating an idea that would honor each of my loyal readers with a special song dedication. My readers, after all, are a part of my Gripping Life. Then, I started thinking about all of the time that would be needed to pull off such a project. Am I really up for this task? Or is it enough that I have the desire and good intention? 🙂 Okay, so I’m still considering it… I’ll start by dedicating a song to my daughter, Lily – something I know she likes. She’s actually the one responsible for getting me started in the blogging world. Thanks, my Lil!
The Stone Poneys featuring Linda Rondstadt – Different Drum
For Lily in Canada- Marina and the Diamonds – PrimaDonna Girl
Good intent is a good way to start the week. Your music Monday is awesome and Linda Rondstadt is a class act. Very different messages in those two videos, huh? 🙂
haha! Yes, I was thinking about that, too. What a difference forty years makes. I hadn’t heard “Different Drum” in so long – it’s a real gem, right? It started me wondering about Linda Ronstadt’s whereabouts. She always had such a great voice.
Have a great night, Honie!!
Lisa
Woo congrats on 200! Do you know what would happen if I tried to do a post like this, and no I’m not trying to discourage you, I would come up with a few really good ones then start to struggle with some people. I think you should do it under the pretense that this is really hard to do, especially when you have so many people to cover. Or maybe we can all dedicate songs to you? That seems a little too self-serving.
I still would like to see what you dedicate to who. I usually find more out about a person when I see what songs other people think they would enjoy.
I want to do it just for the challenge. I was thinking it could be a lyric or a mood that a song puts me in or something that I know the person already likes (easy). But yeah, it’s sort of a cool idea because it’s like a little gift – one that takes some thought and effort.
Let’s see… what would I choose for you…? I think I know. 😉
This would almost be a good Secret Santa type idea. Dedicate a song to someone you hardly know.
I actually wrote up a post about a girl who told me two different songs that made her think about me. I think you’ll top it. No, I know you will.
It will be very difficult – in some cases it will be a thin thread. haha!
Congrats on 200 posts!
Thank you kindly, sir!
Linda Ronstadt has popped into my head so many times recently… it’s like she dropped off the planet! You know I am 100+% with you on this one Lisa. A day without music… well, it’s unthinkable. 😉 Thanks for this fun musical romp, and congratulations on your 200th!
I know! What happened to her? I always think it’s strange when people are so talented and popular and then they disappear…. strange. I know music is your oxygen, too. I also know if I go ahead with my dedications which song I’lll choose for you. tee hee
Can’t wait to see!! Seriously… how long do I have to wait? Can I have it now? Pleeeease! I hate waiting! Man, is it time yet? 😉
In the meantime… I am dying to know how you embed the videos. Would you email me a tutorial… talk me through it slowly? I’ve tried and tried, and it never works. :-p
I’m hit or miss with them. I need my own tutorial. This is what I do and sometimes it works. While the youtube song is playing, copy the address bar- the http:// thing. Next, go back to your post and paste it on it’s OWN line. Give it plenty of room. That’s all you do. If the address reads in color, that means it’s hyper-linked and it won’t work. That’s all I know. Seriously. This is like the blind leading the blind. haha!
I’ll dedicate a song for you next music monday – you’ll like it. That’s all I’m gonna say. 😉
Ok, I’ll try it… just emailed you. So ignore that, until I try this. Thanks! 🙂
OMG! You are brilliant!! I have asked for tech help, I’ve pushed all kinds of buttons, etc… and it just worked!! Can’t believe it was that easy. Holy mother of music babes. I adore you. xo
haha! I LOVE YOU ,TOO!!! xoxox
I just saw a picture of Linda Ronstadt and you know, it’s just like all the other groups from the past… it is best to remember them the way they were! Watched a concert by Peter Noone a few years back (from a distance) and he looked so hot. Then I got his autograph and the close up of him has scarred me for life! LOL
Seriously, congratulations on 200!
LOLOLOL!!!
Happy 200th!!!!
I am right behind you!
Love this song. You blast me to the past and for some reason it makes me so happy!
Thanks, Diane. The young readers probably won’t ‘get’ the Linda Ronstadt thing but whatever… I have to think of something to dedicate to you, too! I’m thinking…
PS – your happiness is my happiness.
Congrats on your 200th! Luckily for me, your 200th post coincided with my nap!
I love both of those songs. Such good tunes! You know me too well.
Thanks for the dedication! I feel so cool! Congrats for having such a successful and cool blog!
Thanks, Lil. I was gonna dedicate Pretty Girl Rock but then I liked “Primadonna” more, and she reminds me of you. 🙂
Haha thanks! She reminds me of Maurine so much. I don’t know why. Omg I forgot about Pretty Girl Rock…must go listen…
love Linda — I have an album — yes an album of her singing some of the old classics from my mom’s generation — it was just excellent
glad your daughter got you interested in blogging — happy 200th
I have that same album. She’s on the cover in a fancy pink or lavender gown, right? I remember it. She’s so talented.
Two hundred posts and probably about ten of them are worth while! LOL!! Thanks, Lou Ann!
I don’t know where it is -but I know I did not throw it out — I will be on Hoarders next week btw
I love your posts–don’t put them down!
Haha! Hoarders!!!
200 posts is pretty incredible! I am glad to have been there for a lot of them. Yay for Lils for getting you into the blogging game. I don’t know what I’d do on the ol’ WordPress without both of you!
Thanks, my Em!! I feel the same way – not much of a blogosphere without you in it. 200 is a big accomplishment especially when you consider that I didn’t think I’d make it through the first week.
Hmm…Lily as Linda Ronstadt. That’s going to take some work to wrap my head around.
(Linda’s best work was on the Muppets.)
Congratulations on 200! Can’t wait to see what comes next.
Wait a minute, who said anything about Lily AS Linda Rondstadt? Haha! Could they be more different? Blue Bayou… She’s got a great voice. I don’t think she needed the muppet accompaniment, but that’s just me. 🙂
Thanks, Guapo! Let’s see what other crap I come up with to post about!
What a cool idea. And congrats on 200
Thanks, John. I’ll have to come up with a good dedication for you, my music guru. 😉
Did you manage find Luke Nicholson anywhere?
No, it’s so frustrating.
well Congrats on the 200th post my friend. I am so very grateful to be along for the ride–
The Gripster is a Hipster spinning some grand tunes 🙂
Thanks, Audra! It wouldn’t be the same without you. I just have to think of a dedication worthy of you.
Short people by randy Newman haa
Haha!! Now I’m trying to think of a comeback but my brain is dead. 😦
Baby got back by sir mix a lot
You’re on a roll! Haha!
I just looked at a Facebook page with photos of Manhattan from the 60s and 70s — even the part of Manhattan that I grew up in, the northernmost tip. The Linda Ronstadt song gave me goosebumps because it was in line with those pictures and when I grew up at that time. I love this song — it makes me feel warm and fuzzy for those times.
You made me think of how well mothers know their daughters when you said the Primadonna Girl video reminded you of Lily. I did pick out some things in the video that made me think of the way she describes her life at times in the blog. My mom scares me with these accurate descriptions. I like that heart shaped mole on the singer’s face — it’s like the moles they wore in the 18th century. And I had recently thought that I might start wearing one of those moles on my face! Though I’m far from a Primadonna Girl — I’m more like space cadet girl!
I know the exact feeling you’re talking about – it’s the best. I think that’s half the reason I love music, especially the older stuff. It transports me and I end up feeling like I did in my youth. The clothes and the whole mood of that time period can be captured in that one little video. Glad you liked it. 🙂
I could have picked something a little more sentimental for Lily, something sweeter but she and I listen to a lot of this type of thing. This particular song reminds me of Lily’s attitude and humor and her ability to say what’s ever on her mind, even when she comes off superficial. That’s her schtick. She cracks me up. Space Cadet Girl!! Haha! I’m gonna have to think long and hard about the song I dedicate to you, lady. It’ll be a good one, that much I know.
Have a warm fuzzy day!
Lisa

Congrats, Lisa, on your 200th post! That’s awesome. You can dedicate a song to me any day. Hmm…what would it be?? That could be a huge task so don’t worry, I won’t hold you to it, miss! How about those eyelashes?
I know exactly what your song will be! Just wait and you’ll see. 🙂
Have great day, Amy!!
Woo-Hoo!! @200 posts down, many more to come.. Keep blogging my friend and thanks for the party music!! I forgot to tell you , I like your new blog layout too.. Tres’ Cool!!
Thanks, Lynne!! I’m still finding my way in life and in blogging! Out of 200 posts I probably have 10 good ones! Haha! The best part has been making friends with so many stellar people. Thanks for being part of my Gripping Life!! Xoxox
Happy 200th!!!
Thanks, Denise!
Lisa, I’m late to your celebration! Two-hundred posts — what a milestone and I’m glad I’ve had the good fortune to read most of them. You’ve made me think, laugh, smile and cry — all human emotions — the mark of a fine writer/thinker. Here’s to 200 more and I love Linda Ronstadt — so many good songs. You remind me of so many tunes I don’t think about — thank you. And again, congrats!!!
Thanks, Brig! The best part of blogging for me has been the friendships. The people that I’ve connected with are an unexpected treasure. You, Brigitte, are a gem. 🙂
I have to laugh because out of those 200 posts probably 10 of them are okay. haha!
I’m so glad I didn’t quit. I hope the coming year brings new light and happiness into our lives, friend. I really do.
I had totally forgotten about that Linda Ronstadt song. When I played it, it was like finding an old friend that I could sing along with. Stuff like that makes me happy.
If I go ahead with my song dedications I pretty much know what I’m going to be playing for you. 🙂 Stay tuned! xoxox
Dear Gripping
Thank you so much for your post.
It may not have been dedicated to The Dandy but it certainly felt like it was – this has opened a doorway into the early career of Ms Ronstadt that I simply didn’t know existed.
For that I am most truly and heartily grateful.
A middle eight played on the harpsichord? Who could ask for anything more!!
Yours ever
The Perfumed Dandy
Oh, I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Dandy! It’s a little gem, isn’t it? I had almost forgotten about it – this is why I love Youtube. It’s full of old treasures. I used to drive around in my car and sing with Linda Ronstadt to this one. (Of course I let her be the lead – I was more of a back-up singer, if you will. ) 😉
Congrats on 200 posts!!! Great song selection, too.
Hope you are well.
One for me and one for Lily. Thanks, Addie. I hope you’re doing well. I miss your presence in the old blogosphere! It’s not the same without you. 😦
Love this! I’m bopping and hopping in my seat!
Someone was saying it’s amazing the difference forty years can make – the women, the messages, the overall packaging…
Lily is responsible for introducing me to some great music. I’m glad you liked it!!
Forty years… Flappers to The Beatles… Zowie!
Congratualtions on your 200th post Lisa. You’ve certainly been through a lot since you first started your blog. It’s funny how a blog becomes such a big part of life even if you think your just going to do it as a hobby. I’m so glad you started your blog — I’ve enjoyed it so much and have learned so much and enjoyed knowing you so much Lisa! And how sweet to dedicate these songs to Lily. They are perfect and beautful. I have never thought of dedicating a song to my kids, but now, that’s exactly what I am going to do. I’ll have to get on Youtube and see what songs appear!! I’m also going to find some Cat Stevens to listen to too!! 😀
Well, considering I didn’t think I’d make it through week one, I’ve held up pretty well. That’s not to say my posts have been coherent or anything! haha! The best part of blogging, for me, has been connecting with so many wonderful and warm people. Isn’t it great? It’s only been a little over a year but it’s amazing that my thoughts dance around the globe, wondering how everyone is doing. You know it’s infiltrated your life when you go about your day and see things and are reminded of people. Needless to say, Linda, I will never go in Pottery Barn again, or get that catalog without thinking of you and laughing! That’s just one example of many I have for you!! I’m plugged into Linda Vernon and I couldn’t be more thrilled! I’m lucky to have you for a friend – someone who adds quality to my gripping life. (…and you’re right, it’s been a little too gripping of late.) 😦
The first song was for me – something I had forgotten about but stumbled onto on Youtube (I love singing along to that one) and the second one was for Lily. She Loves Marina and the Diamonds – very pop, bubble gummy, tongue in cheek sort of music. No wonder she loves it. I really do want to start dedicating songs to everyone but I think it will be quite a project. I’m so bad with copying and pasting and getting things to work properly. haha!
Happy 200, cutie!
You don’t look a day over 100!
Thanks, Hook. Now I’ll go kill myself. Just kidding, I think…
Don’t do it! I actually have a conscience!
(It’s a hassle, but it came with the mortal form.)
Okay, I’ll reconsider. Glad you have a conscience – it probably comes in handy, right?
At times!
I have enjoyed Linda Ronstadt ever since I got to see the Stone Poneys at UCLA when I was a teen. I am not actually that much younger than Linda, which only underscores the fact that she was successful and influential when she was little more than a kid too! I don’t know think she has recorded lately, but I thought her CD a few years ago called “Adieu False Heart” with Ann Savoy was stunning; their version of “Walk Away Renee” was staggering. It is a Cajun roots album; fitting with Linda’s exploration of musical genres. I think she is writing her memoirs. A few years ago, a friend in the Bay Area attended a lunch/book reading with the author Joyce Carol Oates; the attendees went around the table introducing themselves…and there she was, “Hi, I’m Linda Ronstadt. I’m a singer.” Yes, a singer, indeed! Thank you for this post, Lisa: I hope you feel better…and also check out Linda’s version of Blue Bayou on the album “Concert for Nicolette Larson”…the last verse is in Spanish…just leaves me with goosebumps! Take care, Hallie
I’m so sorry I didn’t get back to this sooner. I read it when you posted it and never got back to it! Forgive me. Yeah, Linda Ronstadt has an amazing voice. I haven’t heard “Adieu False Heart,” but just from the title, I think I’d like it. I love “Walk Away Renee” and am curious how she’s arranged it. I’ll check out the “Concert for Nicolette Larson” too. It’s so great when we can bond over little things like this.
What a thrill to be at a book reading with Linda Ronstadt. Gasp. It would have been hard to concentrate after that.
Well done on 200 posts Lisa 🙂 there are so many that never even make it past 20 let alone adding another zero on the end of that.
Thanks, Pete. I didn’t think I’d make it past the first week. You’ve been there all along making it a joy. I might not have made it if it weren’t for you. 🙂
I know what you mean, I’m pretty amazing. Hahaha!!
