Gripping Hands
One glance
An unexpected thrill
Hands from heaven
casually in view
Sculptor’s dream
-lines and form
But I know…
Worship and adore
Warm, moving
Divinely beautiful hands
Made more perfect by the unaware
“All I ever want is just to fall into your human hands.” -Elvis Costello
*Rarely am I inspired to write a poem, but I’ve encountered hands so heavenly, that I had no choice but to scribble a few lines together to satisfy my need. If I haven’t done them justice, imagine hands so gorgeous, that they would compel me, Lisa, to write a poem. That’s the idea.
.
How beautiful to hear a poem-a hymn-a lyric so early in the morning, and all about love. Radiance 🙂
Speaking of radiance… thank you, Vickie. You are oh so kind. 🙂
Have no fear, you’ve done them justice.
I imagine the touch of those hands would be maddening, in the best possible way!
Indeed. 😉
Lisa! This was exquisite in it’s simplicity. The last line is my favorite, the way it gathers the rest of the lines into that tight package. And the darn thing is so sensual. Gracious!
You’re always so kind, but I know you of all people ‘get me.’ Thanks, my Addie. xoxo
Very beautiful!!! I loved-Made more perfect by the unaware.-
That’s my favorite line, too — only because it’s so true, right? When someone doesn’t know how attractive they are it’s a big WOW! Thanks, pretty lady. xoxo
Oh, Lisa! Poetess! The person to whom those hands belong would be overjoyed to be the subject of such a tender verse, I’m sure (unless they already know?). Another talent of yours, you are almost overburdened, sweet lady 🙂 And a fine choice of Costello quotation, too. Brava!
Oh, George! I’m smiling because you’ve generously referred to this as “another talent.” Your kindness knows no bounds. 😉 Lol!
Perhaps the subject of this poem will read it…? I hope so, I really do. He’s a hottie.
I didn’t really want to use another Elvis Costello quote but then I thought, why not? It fits.
I hope you are enjoying/relaxing on this Memorial day, my friend.
Thinking of you!
xoxo
Lisa
That was a beautiful poem mom! I wish I could write real poems instead of stupid rhyming verses about the Kardashians.
😉 I tried. I’m not sure it conveys exactly what I was feeling, but it’s close enough. Your poems are good and funny! I wish I was more like you. 😉
Lovely poem Lisa, can I put it on my new poetry site.

Oh, Harry, that would be wonderful! Thank you for the offer. I’d love that. 🙂
Gorgeous, Lisa. You should write poems more often. I love the last four lines the best…exquisite.
Thanks, kind Amy. 🙂
I used to write poems when I was in college and I just stopped along the way.
I’m sure you’ve had the experience, since you’re a great writer, of having that inspiring moment, when you feel like you have to write, you MUST. If you knew these hands you would have written about them, too.
Isn’t a person always more attractive when they are unaware of their good looks? I think so.
Really beautiful!
Thanks, Ginger. 🙂
Beautiful words..I have always thought hands were one of men’s best qualities and one many women overlook…hands are under-appreciated as well..
Perhaps he will read this and think “That’s me?”
😉
You’re so right, hands are a body part often overlooked but when they’re beautiful, and you catch a quick glance, they really are something to behold. This particular pair of hands look like something Leonardo Da Vinci would etch. My poem doesn’t even come close to describing them. I think he will read this, if he hasn’t already. Not sure what he’ll think? 😉
He’ll be touched and who knows…*wink*
Exactly. 😉
Lovely… I love how you made something so ordinary.. so beautiful.
Oh, thanks Ruth. That’s so very kind. 🙂 It’s simple, but it was one of those feelings that I wanted to put in words.
Oh how I’ve missed you! The idea of hands, is so compelling… so much that can be done with them. I hope you are well, friend. xo
I’ll email you, Dawn. I need to catch up with you. I miss you, too!
Yes, hands, beautiful hands, can often get overlooked. This particular pair almost made me gasp when my eyes found them. 😉
NIce.
Hubba.
Amen, my sista!!
Hubba, hubba, ding-dong. 😉
hahahaha
Lisa, your poem is now on site, you can tell the world about it 🙂

Thanks, Harry!! That’s wonderful!!!
You did more than scribble a few lines my friend. Warm, moving, divinely….(sigh perfect )
You are such a lovely friend, my Audra. Thank you for your help. 🙂
I really like this Lisa! It really stirred up the imagery and what hands are capable of.
tee-hee. I don’t have the vocabulary for this particular pair of hands so I kept it simple. Thanks, Sandee. It’s always good to see your smiling face. Hope work is going well and that you’re happy. xoxo
Thanks Lisa! I do love this job! I just have to prepare financially as it has become seasonal since two years ago. I’ve been here almost eight years and have loved almost every minute of being here. Most of my angst has to do with catching up financially. My fantasy life would be for me to be able to get paid as a writer regularly and for this to turn into a day job. Have a good rest of the week!
beautiful depth of expression–I enjoy reading words masterfully put together to form a whole and you did it here
Lou Ann, you are too kind. The fact of the matter is that I almost gasped when I looked down and saw them. Then I studied them and found them to be gorgeous – if I can use that word to describe a man’s pair of hands. My vocabulary is limited to earthly things. My impatience is quite evident here, I think. Maybe the real depth comes from the agony of attempting to put these ideas together- when I know there is real talent reading my post. 😉
sometimes impatience breeds perfection–in getting down what you want to say before you lose it, you have captured it
Thanks, Lou Ann. 🙂
I’m so late to this, Lisa, but your poem, your words and imagery are just beautiful. Yet another talent you have! I’m so happy for you and it sounds as if life is going pretty good for you. You’ve GOT to catch me up soon. Email me, lady! xxoo
Okay. I have been so negligent. I will email you, my Brigitte. 🙂 Many things to catch up on.
…and thanks for the compliment. Read my response to Lou Ann – You’re included in that group of talent.
Just lovely, from start to finish! 🙂
Thanks, Diane. It’s simple but that’s what I’m working with. 😉 I don’t have the vocabulary to describe these hands. Thanks again for your sweet comment.
Oh Lisa! This was such a beautiful poem. I love the last line. I think of my little grandson’s hands made better by the unaware. Each time I read it, it could mean something different. It’s just simply wonderful! I hope you’ll write more for us! 😀
Oh, little children’s hands are precious and so very busy! I love to watch them.
I think that things get magnified when the person is unaware- they become more beautiful and perfect. These particular hands look like something Da Vinci would use for his model. How much more thrilling for me to make that observation with the subject being completely oblivious. 😉
